Challenge 50: Lowbrow Threadless, Sugar Skull

It was nice for this challenge to sit back and just have some fun drawing a graphic tee. I decided to draw myself a sugar skull and ended up with what you see. Hope you enjoy!

Project 14: Book Covers- Dr. Jekyll, Frankenstein, and Dracula

For the book challenge I chose to do pixel Kindle covers to three classic books that I felt all went together: Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, and Dracula. I had a pretty fun time trying out using the pixel textures as a means of illustrating and hopefully will be able to incorporate using it more in the future!

Challenge 48: Invasion: Invasion of Privacy

For the latest challenge I chose to illustrate a piece about electronics and the information we put out there online. I also wanted to convey a little sense of a paranoia in the drawing for fun. I chose to do that with drawing a comparison between the cameras and various devices to eyes, as well as play around with the circle shape– placing them throughout the whole illustration and bouncing the eye around. Thanks for taking a look. (see what I did there)

Known as “Dad” to most of us at Letter Society, Casey is not only one of the most thoughtful and sweetest members of the LS but also one of the most talented illustrators I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know. His design skills are also extremely impressive (I mean, duh). Every design element…

Challenge 47: Currency: Gringotts Online Wizarding Bank

For the latest Square Carousel challenge we were faced with re-designing and imagining currency. I wanted to take a more unconventional approach and work on money from the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Also in the back of my mind was recent conversations I’ve had with friends regarding the magic world and the use of modern day technology. Thus the idea of creating a mobile app design for Gringotts was made.

Obviously there are some logistical matters that would have to be sorted out if this were a real thing in the fictional world. That aside, it was a BLAST to make and a fun concept to play around with! Hope you all enjoy!

Project 11: Off the Computer: One With Nature Poster

Hello Tumblrsphere! For Jake’s challenge, I chose to do a poster concept inspired by my love for the outdoors and the feeling you have when immersed and surrounded by greenery and life. I started out my design by refining my initial thumbnail and figuring out where exactly I wanted the various elements in the poster. What also really helped was doing a color comp to figure out the paper usage. From there, I started by building the initial structure of the ribcage, moving to the organs and hip bone, then finishing with the nature embellishments.

I’ve also decided to put this lovely up as a print for sale on my Etsy page. Treat yourself and buy this beaut!

Thanks for checking this out and on that note, I’ll start picking up paper scraps off the studio floor for the next week.

Challenge 46: Series of Three: RuPaul’s Drag Race

When Julia posted this challenge for a series of three, at the time I was chatting with fellow member and RuPaul fan, Elizabeth. The Drag Race show is coming to a close and we thought it would be a perfect time to pay homage to some of the sickening looks and our favorite queens on the show. I chose Bianca Del Rio, Adore Delano, and Ben de la Creme’s looks from the black & white runway challenge. I had a blast working on these three and you should stay tuned for Elizabeth’s picks!

Challenge 45: Get Your Gif On

Evening folks! For this challenge I wanted to do a character from one of my favorite films, The Fall. After sketching around I chose to depict the masked bandit ready to avenge his fallen brother. I had fun trying to figure out how to do the gun smoke and certainly have room for improvement and further tinkering around! I’m looking forward to keep playing with making more elaborate gifs in the future. Thanks for taking a look!

Here’s my contribution to Light Grey Art Lab’s show, Animystics! The piece is named Drastie Cove after the Scottish legend of ’Otter Kings.’ When captured, these otters would grant any wish in exchange for their freedom. The pelts were also prized for the belief that they would render a warrior invincible. I really am happy with how the final piece turned out and hope you enjoy!

If you’re interested in purchasing a print, you can find it for sale along with other works here.

Project 9: Google.com Search Redesign

Hey there folks- Erik sure picked a doozy this time with Google.com as our starting point for this project! The one thing I felt was iconic about the search page was how simple it was with utility being the cornerstone. I wanted my redesign to still have that simplicity but also to include more functionality and update the general look.

I chose to eliminate the bright colors typically found in the logo and to do a search line instead of the typical text box. On the bottom dock, users would find their own apps for Gmail, gChat, Maps, etc. The apps would be customizable and interfaced with the general navigation throughout the partner sites.

Thanks for taking the time to check this out!
