Here’s my contribution to Light Grey Art Lab’s show, Animystics! The piece is named Drastie Cove after the Scottish legend of ’Otter Kings.’ When captured, these otters would grant any wish in exchange for their freedom. The pelts were also prized for the belief that they would render a warrior invincible. I really am happy with how the final piece turned out and hope you enjoy!

If you’re interested in purchasing a print, you can find it for sale along with other works here.

Good morning folks! It’s a beautiful start to Friday and I felt like sharing this year’s Farmers’ Market poster I made for my hometown of Lebanon, Ohio. I stuck with the same color pallet as previous years but offered a different look with the linework. Hope you all enjoy!

It’s my Dad’s Birthday today! I’ve been practicing doing some gif making in photoshop for an upcoming project and this was a great way to try some things out.

Challenge 43: Re-Do: The Producers

For Elizabeth’s challenge we were tasked with reworking an old illustration piece into our current style. I chose to revamp a character piece I created in my first Illustration class in college- keeping my favorite characteristics from the original and improving others. On that note, I give you Max Bialystock, Leo Bloom, and Roger DeBris from the Producers.

Project 7: Band Poster – Du Tonc

For Mark’s challenge I decided to make a poster for Du Tonc, a duo who I’ve been listening to lately. Here’s what I did for the three images- I used woman and adapted her to be more in a more natural falling pose through drawing over the photo. I also added linework to the mountains to tie them back into the figure. Lastly, I took the ink clouds and made the dreamy background texture. Thanks for taking a look and hope you enjoy!

Challenge 42: Complete Partnership: Caitlin and Casey’s Children’s Book Spread

I think it would be safe to say that Casey and I thought this would be a lot easier than it actually was! Working together consistently required a lot more communication, patience, and compromise than just pasting together two different sections that we worked on separately.

We would each work on the piece for 30 minutes, which was a perfect limit so neither of us could “take over” stylistically, but also made compromising a lot more complicated! It was actually quite funny, because in our last bit of work during Skype, we revealed that we’d both been insecure about our aesthetic coming through. I suppose that means we had actually done a good job with our collaboration!

In the end, I truly believe we brought out the best in each other, because this piece is really exciting! Casey pushed me in ways I hadn’t been pushed in a long time, and this art is a true union of our two illustration voices.  Thanks for willing to be pushed, and pushing me back, Casey. This was a great experiment!

Also- just a side note- this process GIF is super cool!

Challenge 41: Freebie: J.C. Leyendecker Study

Hey there everybody- for this freebie challenge I wanted to step away from doing my typical illustration work and do something just for pure, good ol’ fashioned fun. One of my all time favorites from the Golden Age of Illustration is J.C. Leyendecker and I thought it would be a good challenge doing a figure in his gorgeous painting style. Being a far cry from an original, I’m still super happy with how this came out and definitely enjoyed the process!

Hello everyone! I’m excited to announce my Etsy shop is back up and ready for business with a fun new addition- a 2014 Floral Calendar! This was a project that I had been wanting to do for a while now, and it’s exciting to see it all come together. Each month has it’s respective birth flower and each of them with different shapes and color pallets. Hope you all enjoy as much as I had fun making these!

My fellow artist friend Julia Lavigne had a great post today recapping all the highlights of her 2013 year. Hopping on the bandwagon, I thought I’d share some of my favorite art and career moments from the past 12 months.

Thank you to all my friends, family and supporters out there! Happy 2014
